Instructions for Use
1. For light to medium skin tones, leave on for at least 2 hours
2. For medium to olive skin tones, leave on for between 2 and 4 hours
The main tanning agent used in all self-tanning formulas is dihydroxyacetone (DHA).
This ingredient does not produce a real tan by increasing the skins melanin levels, rather it creates a tanned appearance by developing a brown colour on the surface of the skin.
The development of the colour takes anywhere from 2 to 8 hours and the intensity of tan is dependent upon the DHA percentage in the product as well as each tanners individual skin type. The colour developed by the DHA usually lasts 5 to 7 days and begins to fade as the top layer of the skin naturally sheds, this is why it is really important to moisturise regularly in the days following your tan to prolong the life of your tan.
DHA takes approximately 8-16 hours to fully develop. You will obtain the best results if you can avoid showering a minimum of 2 hours after your spray tan application.
DHA is an ingredient derived from sugar cane and beets, which reacts with the amino acids in the skin to create the darkening reaction or tan.
It is important to keep skin moisturised after your spray tan as dry, flaky skin will shed off faster and your tan will fade quicker. You basically want to slow down your bodies natural skin shedding process.
